About Me

Hey, I’m Kate! I work with undergrad and postgrad students across a range of subjects, including: statistics, research methods, psychology (all domains), humanities (e.g., anthropology, linguistics), and can do general English language support. I also offer tutoring for practical skills like R programming and academic writing.

I bring over a decade of hands-on teaching and supervision experience to my tutoring. I’ve taught at the University of Western Australia and Curtin University, supervised PhD and honours students, and delivered research training workshops. I’ve been where you are, and I understand the the whole uni process from first-year uncertainty to PhD-induced hair loss.

I love finding ways to engage people with science. I’ve supervised 3 PhD students and 5 honours students. I also mentored students formally via the LGBTQI+ Pinnacle Foundation, and countless more I have worked with. I’ve also worked with students with learning disabilities, including attentional disorders, and tailor my approach accordingly. I understand that a warm, compassionate and tailored approach is always best.

My research background is equally hands-on: I’ve published 13 peer-reviewed papers, including in top-ranked journals, and regularly review for leading journals in my field, meaning I know exactly what rigorous academic work looks like, and how to help you get there.

A few of my personal highlights:

Whether you’re trying to get into a clinical program, aiming to excel, or just need someone to help you feel less lost, I’d love to work with you.

Services

Statistics and Quantitative Methods

Hypothesis testing, regression, factor analysis, mixed models, and more – using R, SPSS, MatLab, or Python. Whether you are brand new to stats or working through advanced analyses for your thesis, I can help you build real understanding rather than just getting through the assignment.

Research Design and Methods

From choosing your methodology to writing up your results, I can help you design rigorous, well-reasoned research. Particularly useful for honours and postgraduate students navigating their first independent project.

Thesis and Dissertation Editing

Structural feedback, argument clarity, academic tone, and line editing for honours and PhD theses. I know what examiners are looking for, having supervised and examined at both levels myself.

Psychology and Humanities

Support across psychology, sociology, philosophy, history, and related disciplines. I can help with essay writing, conceptual understanding, critical analysis, and making sense of complex theoretical material.

Academic Writing and English Language Support

Developing a clear, confident academic voice – whether English is your first language or not. Covers sentence structure, paragraph flow, academic conventions, and how to express complex ideas precisely.

Exam Preparation and Essay Skills

Working through past papers, practising essay structure under time pressure, and building the kind of deep familiarity with your material that holds up on exam day. Suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework assessment.

Thesis and Dissertation Editing

This must be paid for in advance following the meeting to discuss your work.

Editing rates depend on the nature and scope of the work. Prices are per 5,000 words. I know my prices may seem expensive compared to ChatGPT. However, I’ve sat on several thesis examination committees and know what Australian Universities are looking for. Trust me, I won’t tell you your work is good if it’s not.

Standard editing – $500 Detailed written feedback/comments covering everything from argument quality, area-specific knowledge (I will always be honest with how much I know about your specific research area), thesis structure, clarity, citations and referencing, academic tone, and line-level edits. Turnaround varies depending on current availability – please get in touch to discuss your timeline before submitting. Includes a one hour session to discuss findings. I do follow ethical guidelines.

Priority editing – $650 Everything included in standard editing. Returned within 48 hours of submission. Priority service not permitted for these > 20,000 words.

Discounts

I do not offer standard bulk discount packages. If you anticipate needing regular, consistent support over a longer period, please reach out directly and we can discuss what works for both of us.

Testimonials

“Kate is awesome at explaining highly complex concepts as if there are everyday stuff! She is also very good at gauging your understanding and tailoring her approach accordingly. She is also quite fun!”

— Ilker, Curtin University (PhD level)

Kate was my co-supervisor during my PhD and her skills and support made a huge difference to how I approach research. She has a real ability to spot patterns in where your thinking or writing isn’t landing and make that clear to you. She helped me see what I wasn’t doing effectively and gave me the tools, ideas and methods to improve on my own. She’s also one of the best stats educators I’ve come across: patient, clear, and genuinely innovative in how she explains complex concepts. She makes sure you walk away understanding the core principles rather than just the steps.

— Belinda Cham Curtin University
